Three Ways to Choose a Qualified Chinese Teacher

For different requirements and purposes, you need to select different courses and teachers. Not every Chinese person who can speak Chinese is qualified to work as a Chinese Language Teacher. Generally a qualified Chinese teacher needs to study at least one course of Teaching Chinese as Second Language Certificate. Of course, a teacher with more teaching experience is better.
 
1, Teacher of Reading and Writing Courses
Degree: Above Bachelor Degree of Chinese Literature, Teaching Chinese as Second Language or Foreign Language (English, Japanese, etc)
Teaching in Foreign Language: At least fluent in one foreign language, such as English, French, etc
Certificate: Teaching Chinese as Second Language Certificate is asset
Natal Place in China: Anywhere in China
 
2, Teacher of Listening and Speaking Courses
Degree: Above Bachelor Degree of Chinese Literature, Teaching Chinese as Second Language or Foreign Language (English, Japanese, etc)
Teaching in Foreign Language: At least fluent in one foreign language, such as English, French, etc
Certificate: Teaching Chinese as Second Language Certificate is asset
Natal Place in China: Beijing or Lived in Beijing till 18 years old.
 
Notes1: Non-Beijing People cannot speak standard mandarin. Generally in China non-Beijing People also need to study mandarin courses and join mandarin exam if they hope to work for broadcast company or government. In China, there are more than 3000 dialects of Chinese. Chinese Pronunciation even between two very close cities is different. So China Government defined Beijing People Pronunciation as Mandarin Standard.
 
Notes2: When you achieve advanced levels, you can ask your school to select some non-Beijing teachers to teach you some dialects to improve your listening ability. This idea is very practical. In China, when you speak mandarin, every Chinese person can understand you without any problem. All of TV and broadcast programs are based on standard mandarin speaking. But most of non-Beijing Chinese cannot speak standard mandarin. They have more or less dialects. So for advanced listening, you need to practice more with non-Beijing people. But do not learn to speak any dialects because a dialect of one place cannot be understood by another place. Only mandarin can be understood by all of Chinese people.
